It used to be that white was never worn after Memorial Day, but fashion is all about breaking the rules - isn't it?
Therefore it's no surprise that white happens to be one of the biggest colors for winter this year. White was a huge presence on the runways, with designers such as Céline, Mulberry and Giambattista Valli all showcasing head-to-toe looks using modern separates in varying shades of stark, ivory and cream. The chic, minimalist color has also been seen on several celebrities on the red carpet during this awards season.
One thing to keep in mind when tackling this winter white trend is that it’s all about the fabric. Lighter textiles such as cotton, linen, canvas and seersucker will surely look out of place during the chilly months of winter. No one wants to be caught freezing to death in a Polar Vortex, even if it looks good. Instead, purchase items that are made of wool, cashmere, flannel, silk, or leather. If you're going to tackle wearing white pants, be sure to also pair it up with a top that is fit for winter like a chunky sweater or overcoat.
