Bon’jour Haute Street readers,
I love being a part of the Haute Street family and when I was asked to write a little bit about health I was elated I got my first workout outfit when I was a 1 year old. Yup, 1 yrs. old! Do I remember? Naturally, not… but I can give the photographic evidence! It’s safe to say that my mom instilled in me at a young age a love of movement. I say movement because working out isn’t something as specific as going to the gym for two hours. It's true benefits lie simply in movement. One of the things I am most adamant about is that it doesn’t have to be any length of time. One minute can make a difference! When I am waiting for the coffee to boil in the morning, I do some sun salutations! Washing dishes? I do calf raises! I am going to start to include each week one small move that you can incorporate through your week through one minute intervals. The benefit is change - whether it be toning your booty or adding some flexibility to your hamstrings.
So let’s try it! Your task this week is to incorporate calf raises into your daily routine! This will allow you to be more mindful of the moments you give to your body and to yourself. It doesn’t take a lot to make a change. Here are a few tips to get you started:
- When doing calf raises pay special attention to your booty, inner thighs and legs. Really squeeze them as they rise.
- Try to avoid coming all the way down, this will force you to have to incorporate balance. And let’s be honest, we can all use a bit more balance, right?
- Need some variations? Put your feet in parallel, so that they make a “v.” Toss a pillow under to induce more balance… C’mon, I dare you!
- While brushing your teeth, doing dishes, waiting for that hot date to come pick you up. Give yourself these minutes, because it is truly the little habits that make the big difference.
